Hand-Penned Petals Week – Project 1

Happy Stampin’ Monday!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. Yesterday we took my youngest to see Drive-thru Dino Safari at the Wisconsin State Fair Grounds in Milwaukee. It was really cool to see all of the dinosaurs. Even my 18 year old went and thought it was neat. Here are a few of the pics I took.

Today’s Project

Today’s project did not go where I thought it was going to go as I designed it. Have you ever had that happen? Originally I had planned on using a stamped image for the focal point, but the Designer Series Paper (DSP) was so pretty, that I decided to create a frame to focus on the flower rather than hide it under a stamped element.

The Hand-Penned DSP, which will be available to purchase tomorrow is cut to 3-3/4″x5″. After I was done cutting it down to size, I noticed that the flower was almost centered. I did not plan it that way, it just happened. Since it was so pretty (and it yelled “Don’t cover me up!” I decided to make a frame for it (keep reading).

Before making the frame, I mounted the DSP to a piece of Basic White that measures 4″x5-1/4″.

Then, I mounted that to a Pool Party card base measuring 8-1/2″x5-1/2″, which I scored at 4-1/4″ for a crisp fold.

To make the frame, I used 3 of the Layering Circle dies.

I taped the two larger circles together to make the frame.

Here is the backside after I cut. The center fell out as I removed it from the die cutting machine, that’s why it is missing.

Next, I cut another frame in Basic White, using the smaller two circles pictured above, in the same manner and layered that on the inside. I mounted these to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals. You can kind of see one peeking out on the upper left a bit. I used small pieces all around the circle.

Then, I stamped the sentiment using Pool Party ink and trimmed it down to size using my trimmer. Then glued it down on the lower right hand side.

Lastly, I added the white Faux Linen Ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack to the side to hide the fact that the circle frame is not perfectly centered! LOL!

Tomorrow I may try to make the card I had pictured in my head today. Hopefully, I won’t run into any more flowers on the DSP calling out my name! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Make sure to subscribe to Let It Snow Stamping so you never miss another blog post. Every week I pick a stamp set and make one project (possibly two) every weekday. As an added bonus I also make videos for new techniques. The techniques can also be found under the Technique Corner tab.
